About the Role

The primary objective of this role is to develop a technology roadmap and strategy for carbon neutrality in our products, with a strong focus on the European market. The role involves close collaboration with Komatsu Ltd (Japan), EUTC R&D Center, Komatsu Group in Europe, and other related divisions/companies to drive and promote carbon-neutral initiatives in Europe.

Key responsibilities

Developing a Carbon Neutral Technology Roadmap & Strategy (10%)

  • Define a long-term strategy for carbon neutrality in our products, aligned with European market needs.
  • Collaborate with Komatsu Ltd, EUTC, Komatsu Group in Europe, and related stakeholders to integrate sustainability goals into product development.

Market & Technology Research (30%)

  • Analyze and track market trends, emerging technologies, potential partners, and suppliers in Europe related to carbon neutrality.
  • Provide insights on energy sources, infrastructure, regulations, industry standards, competitor activities, and policy developments that impact Komatsu’s carbon-neutral strategy.

Pilot Project Execution & Business Model Development (50%)

  • Lead and support pilot projects utilizing electric construction machines, such as mini excavators and medium- size excavators.
  • Develop charging solutions, battery distribution models (e.g., swappable batteries, battery banks).
  • Plan vehicle introduction and operations, monitor customer usage, analyze vehicle data, and gather insights from customers and distributors.

Technical Support for Carbon Neutral Product Development (10%)

  • Provide technical expertise for the development and market introduction of carbon-neutral products in Europe

Reporting Requirement

  • Submit a monthly report to Komatsu Ltd summarizing the progress and outcomes of responsibilities (1) to (4) above).

Communication & Financial Responsibilities

  • Budget Management: No direct P&L responsibility, but involvement in budget operating and monitoring.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders across Komatsu Group, suppliers, and industry partners.

Profile & Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Technical development experience, particularly in vehicle development.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the construction industry or a related sector.
  • Strong understanding of job sites, customer needs, and construction machinery.
  • Marketing and business acumen to propose customer-oriented solutions.

Technical Expertise (Electrification & Carbon Neutrality)

  • Power Infrastructure: Knowledge of power grids and charging infrastructures in various European countries.
  • High Voltage & Machine Systems:
      - Expertise in power electronics, high-voltage battery systems (including battery management systems).
      - Understanding of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), regulatory compliance, software, and cloud-based solutions. 

Practical Skills:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills to engage stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze, summarize, and report on complex technical topics.

Mindset & Attitude

  • A genuine interest in advanced technologies and a strong curiosity for carbon-neutral solutions.
