About the Role

As a Tax Controller, you will be responsible for managing and ensuring the correct and timely execution of all VAT, tax, and environmental reporting obligations for Komatsu Europe International (KEISA) and its international branches. You will play a key role in providing tax and VAT advisory, coordinating compliance processes, and supporting audits both locally and abroad. This role requires strong expertise in European VAT and corporate tax, attention to detail, and a hands-on attitude to ensure full compliance in an international environment.

Key responsibilities

VAT Compliance & Advisory

  • Prepare and file all VAT and related declarations (VAT, Intrastat, Sales Listing) for the Belgian entities (3 companies).
  • Prepare and, where required, file foreign VAT declarations (DE, FR, GB, ES, NL, IT, SE, FI, etc.). Coordinate and guide external VAT representatives to ensure accurate foreign VAT filings.
  • Instruct bookkeepers on corrections in case of incorrect VAT bookings. Incorporate customs import and export flows into VAT declarations.
  • Advise operational departments on the correct VAT treatment of goods and services within an international context.
  • Monitor VAT legislation changes and advise management on the implementation of new requirements. Maintain VAT tables in the ERP system.
  • Lead VAT audits in Belgium and abroad. Prepare VAT data for quarterly KPMG audits.
  • Perform transaction-based spot checks to ensure correct VAT reporting.
  • Coordinate and control the archiving of all legally required evidence (e.g., proof of deliveries) to justify VAT treatment of purchase and sales flows.

Corporate Tax & Transfer Pricing

  • Assist in the preparation of Belgian Corporate Income Tax returns (e.g., overview of non-deductible expenses).
  • Prepare tax certificates (281.50 forms).
  • Support in the preparation of all Transfer Pricing (TP) related reporting for Belgian authorities and KEISA Legal Department (e.g., BEPS, CFC, Pillar 2 reporting).
  • Ensure follow-up of tax reporting requirements for Representative Office and international branches (Senegal, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Sweden, Turkey, …).
  • Act as backup for the calculation and booking of monthly tax accruals (Statutory and USGAAP) and reconciliation of related balance sheet accounts.
  • Support the identification of transactions liable for Withholding Tax (WHT) and ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Environmental Reporting

  • Ensure correct environmental reporting and payment obligations across Europe for KEISA, identifying specific obligations and providing instructions to responsible teams.
  • Responsible for the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) reporting for KEISA. 

Communication Context

You will closely interact with internal stakeholders (finance, operational departments, management) and external parties (VAT representatives, auditors, consultants) while ensuring accurate and timely reporting in line with legal requirements.

Profile & Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4–5 years of relevant experience in VAT, tax reporting, or a similar function.
     

Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of European VAT legislation and general tax principles.   
  • Good knowledge of corporate tax and international tax regulations.

Skills

  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Clear communicator, capable of advising both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong skills in MS Office (Excel in particular).
  • Accurate, hands-on, flexible, and proactive.

Attitude

  • Result-driven with attention to detail.
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates ownership.   
  • A true team player.
