Vilvoorde, February 2025 — Komatsu, a leading global manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, is proud to present a whole bouquet of innovation packed on an all-new prototype 7,5-tonne wheeled excavator which joins the PW98MR and PW138MR wheeled excavator family.
“This new tight-tail excavator fills the gap below the mid-sized wheeled excavators, granting easy and precise operability with any attachments and the best driving experience on the roads, packed in a super compact machine perfectly sized to work in an urban environment,” says Alex Visentin, product manager for the new wheeled excavator. “This 7,5-tonne wheeled excavator takes full advantage of Komatsu group synergy and know-how to offer high versatility, ease of buying, and peace of mind with the factory-fitted Lehnhoff Powertilt option.”
This machine can work in a wide variety of utility and landscaping applications with improved efficiency and is a first choice for heavy-duty lifting applications or simple excavating tasks in narrow alleys, road construction sites and for sewer construction work.
Its swing boom design allows digging parallel to buildings or barriers and the two-piece boom design grants flexibility with an extended working diagram.
The new 7,5-tonne wheeled excavator offer a range of features to benefit operators, including:
- Low emissions operation: 49 kW Stage V compliant engine without need of Diesel Exhaust Fluid refill.
- Outstanding maneuverability: Excellent maneuverability in narrow spaces thanks to an overall max width of 2080mm, short tail radius and 4 Wheel Steering as standard, which grants the smaller turning radius in this product category.
- Fast driving experience with great attachment performances: With HST travel system and single gear ratio there’s no need to change gear at max speed on uphill, working independently and having no impact on attachment utilisation.
- Never stuck in the mud: 100% differential lock as standard grants excellent mobility on muddy ground.
- Reduced Maintenance: No need for an SCR keeps the overall running cost low.
- New cab layout: 7” monitor and a new slow speed control. The operational concept of this wheeled midi excavator puts full control of the machine at your fingertips. Travel direction, undercarriage attachments, and manual/automatic axle lock can be actuated by switches on the control joysticks or the dashboard. Without removing the hand from the right joystick, you can switch its function from boom operation to undercarriage control for complete and precise control over the parallel dozer blade.
- Widest working diagram: digging depth, digging reach, digging height are at the highest level in the category. Maximum flexibility is given by selecting a mono-boom or a 2 pieces boom.
- Versatile and safety related features: a rear-view camera, several tyres option, KIAC (Komatsu integrated attachment control) for the highest flexibility on attachment matching, LED lights hydraulic, quick coupler are just some of the available options.
The new 7,5-tonne wheeled excavator is on display at Komatsu’s booth at Bauma 2025 (Hall C6). Komatsu representatives will be available to answer questions and provide more information about the new models.
