At this moment we are looking for Junior Legal Counsel.

Junior Legal Counsel

The legal counsel provides professional legal services to Komatsu’s businesses and operations under the final supervision of the GM Legal.

The Legal Counsel will be based in Brussels.

The Legal Counsel must understand, evaluate and timely, clearly and effectively communicate the legal risks and opportunities associated with commercial transactions, business operations and projects while at the same time understanding the business requirements and needs.

Responsibilities

The position requires a thorough understanding of all aspects of the business with a strong international focus.

  • Legal support to Komatsu’s Affiliates in Europe & Africa.
  • Legal Support to all Komatsu Business Units
  • Distribution Network Management (EMEA Region).
     - After-Sales
     - Procurement
     - Logistics
     - Komatsu Finance
     - ICT Development & Digital Solutions
     - Facility
  • Support in the overall legal compliance management of the Group’s activities (GDPR, data management, competition law, Human Rights, ESG, Health & Safety etc.);
  • Provide training on relevant legislation and procedures;
  • Monitor, interpret and advise on current and new relevant (national, European) legislation and case law with impact on Komatsu’s business;
  • Evaluate the necessity to seek legal advice from external counsel; select, monitor, manage and ensure effective advice by such external counsel.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited Belgian law school.
  • Minimum of 5  years’ experience with a focus on general corporate & commercial matters and with an international scope.
  • Knowledge of general commercial law (B2B), product safety law, competition law and data (protection) law;
  • Keen interest in export control matters (willingness to learn)
  • Keen interest in general compliance matters
  • Languages:  Dutch (mother tongue), + fluent in English               
  • Team player
  • Self-confident (dare to speak up in meetings, pointing out legal risks to business, escalating risks to higher level if needed)
  • Good at clear and concise communication (translate legal language into business language). 
  • Hands-on, pragmatic. 
  • Able to work independently and to prioritize the key projects
